I've never been an (illegal) drug addict but you guys are dead on. The addiction is in part physical but the rest is mental. Mentally, she is the drug's accomplice or elven servant (even looks like one). Only Santa does not come but once a year, but once a day.For her to reidentify herself with another inner life is a big step now. It involves rediscovering life itself for her. Redefining life, becoming independent psychologically of it. That's an undreamable leap that will take a long time.

A couple of people have recommended she go to the gym instead. The gym works the opposite to drugs. If you have done a fair bit of work there (say a year) you can build back up to a strong and healthy body in a much shorter time than someone else, even if you haven't gone to the gym for a couple of months.With drugs, the more you take, the more you need to have a similar effect. The gym is the opposite to that for sure. The more you do the less you have to do for the same effect.
