Billy Steinberg and Tom Kelly wrote this song for Roy Orbison, who recorded it in 1987, but did not release it until 1992. In the meantime, Cyndi Lauper recorded it in 1989, and was a big hit for her both in the U.S. and overseas. She said this during an interview I saw her on for VH1 some years back.

Im not really one to compare musicians to others, or say so and so is better its all music and i dont see it as anyone is better than the next, but i will say the comparison between Cyndi and Madonna is that Cyndi did more to empower woman than Madonna ever did. Why? because Cyndi never portrayed herself as a slut or a foul mouthed cow like Madonna consistently did, for me ill go to a Cyndi Lauper concert before i would set foot in Madonna's.

Yup...its astounding that ms ciccone got the attention and the fame...but as we know...her hunger was stronger...Cyndi should be happy in the fact that she has true talent...a voice, and the most amazing catalogue of tunes.....Madogga could learn much from her... |
