Maybe it isn't a country (But maybe it is referred to as "America"). Nevertheless, if USA is not America, does that mean that Canadians are too Americans? Seeing as they hail from the same continent? What about Mexicans? It is amazing how many Americans call USA 'America' ... But, I guess it is like calling The United Mexican States 'Mexico' ... Though, people shouldn't be annoyed, USA is commonly known as America and United Mexican States as Mexico. Talk about a serious situation ...

Independence from close minded people like the dude who posted the comment, or independent people like British people? Either way, it was the United FORMER British Colonies vs a British Colony. So, they were all close minded, if you want to be technical, as they were all British (Apart from French, Native American and maybe some Dutch and slaves). Even your own people are getting into disputes over technicalities of terms and referrences! God bless it, alright!
