cynic is one of my favorites bands,but i consider them more into technical thrash rather then progressive metal.Anyway I have on my youtube page a video called "1993 music nostalgy" you should check it.Best regards!

and a funny thing is that for europeans or americans it's normal for them to play in 4/4 or 3/4 and when we listen to something like 9/7 or 13/5 we say..."ooo,it's different,it's complex" but actually if you'll go back to the roots and try to find some asian/oriental/arabic music you'll be amazed about the complexity of the measures or the way the musical scales are taken. Try some turkish folklor for example

i guess the winner in this it is ron jarzombek(from watch tower ot spastic ink or blotted science) This guy...is sick in the head...no normal person can develop such music.Spiral architect and twisted into form...they are also very technical.And if you enjoy a more harsh metal stile then try necrophagist or spawn of possession.And from the '90's ...THE BAND with THE ALBUM...and i mean Cynic with Focus album,the best technical metal album that i've listened.
