I agree and do ju-jutsu and the school I go to is all around school. It has elements of striking (for all other people, not you, cuz you seem to know what are you talking about, who think that ju-jutsu is all about grappling, striking exists in ju-jutsu and has a great importance), grappling, ground-fighting and self-defense. Dunno, just had the urge to state that. =)

indee that was one of the many reasons that Dr.Kano created judo for in jujutsu the actual techniques could not be employ in friendly competition.and to this day in judo there's a large margin for injuries while engaging in sport match, more so than in karate

judo and jujutsu are basically the same art,the only difference is that judo is more of a sport, i.e. it has rules for competition were as ju-jutsu was the old art of japanese combat wrestling.I guess what confuses people is that there were so many schools of jujutsu & methods of aplication that people actually think they were all different, but they all center around the same principle of combat push-pull enter-turn.

Kano devloped Judo by his own for feeling that Jiu jitsu had become too stylized. I'm pretty sure it had nothing to do with the emperor.

i've never been out cold from a strangle, but i've come close a number of times. once you get over the panic of it it is actually not that unpleasant a feeling really :D

Actually, your both right but not fully, the emperor and counsel of Japan wanted to be more modern like the western world and felt jiu-jitsu was too harmful and ancient. so Master Kano took moves from jiu-jitsu to develop the best style in my opinion Judo! Then introduced it to the emperor and counsel whom accepted the new art!

ne-waza is a misnomer it means mat techniques. katame-waza means grappling techniques, look it up. i shall suggest a book one of my students gave me(he could not understand it). it is meant for teachers and coaches the book is Judo Training Methods by Takahiko Ishikawa and Donn Draeger, also Kodokan judo by jigoro Kano there is also the Mifune Judo book.3 must haves for anyone serious Judo person.

I was taught to practice on a self made manikin, it is perfect for working out those arm locks. it helped me a lot.
