so true what you wrote. but its not only return to Leningrad/St. Petersburg. its also the confusion all the emigrants face or might face when they return to their home country or land that changed from the days they were there. i know that pain myself. from personal experience as well as the one of my father. this song became close to me, even though im not as old and my home town didnt change that drastically from the days i left it.

This is not a history lesson, it is called rock 'n' roll!

Yup, the reason these fellers are singing about Leningrad and things Russian at all is propably for the sake of getting people let go of their fear. To fear a country or a government is one thing, but to fear a people is a horrible travesty that will lead to misfortune and misery for all. We should rather get to know the culture better.

I think it's about the many "white Russian" emigrants who fled the revolution, the wars and the soviet union, their years as emigrants or refugees when they longed for home due to languishing in countries which generally viewed Russians as a pestilence thanks to the USSR, and finally what awaited those who returned when the iron curtain had collapsed. Mind you, the singers and songwriters aren't emigrants though, merely people who decided to display their pain.

I don't quiet understand. Is he upset about renaming Leningrad to St. Petersburg, but video shows early 20's of XX century when Petrograd was renamed to Leningrad. |
