Not too long ago, George Bush vetoed his first bill after 5, 1/2 years of serving for our country as president. The bill he vetoed did not allow stem cell research to be funded properly by the government, while the many millions of people like me could be cured from the research. His main reasons for vetoing the bill had to do with cloning, and us being a Christian country. Following this announcement, George Bush recieved a standing ovation. None of the new canidates have spoken about stem cell research except Ron Paul, and he disagreed to fund the research. I am 15 years old. I have had Diabetes for 10 years, and this comming March of 2008 will be my 11th. year. Diabetes is more than just a life threatening disease. It's you're life... period. But there is hope. The JDRF (Juvenille Diabetes Research Foundation) holds a Walk-to-Cure-Diabetes every year in Siesta Key Beach, Florida. They raise millions of dollars a year and span to over 200 locations around the Earth. Diabetes can be cured across America with proper funding from organizations, the government, and people like you. This is also a video to all of our current canidates running for the title of the 44th. US president. Diabetes accounts for 7% of the population of your country. What will you do to help the disease? What are your plans for funding stem cell research? Why? Resource: http://tinyurl.com/3d5fjk Note: the following statistics pertain to the United States of America only, unless otherwise stated. Song: Casino Royale Soundtrack: Vesper Q and A about Diabetes: Q: What is Diabetes? A: Your body turns food into energy using insulin. Insulin is made by the pancreas and allows the sugar to be used by your body. Diabetes is a chronic disease where you're pancreas slows down or stops functioning. Without insulin, the sugar stays in your bloodstream. However, with too much insulin, you won't have reserve energy for standing, walking, and sometimes your body can't keep warm with low blood sugar. I have to monitor my blood sugar levels several times a day and take insulin from shots to make sure my blood sugar levels don't go too high or too low. Q: Does Diabetes happen to fat people? A: Not all types of Diabetes happen to obese people. Type 1 (Juvenille Diabetes) is hereditary, so you can't prevent it. It takes over you as a child or teen. Type 2 Diabetes occurs in obese people or old people, whose pancreas's aren't strong enough to meet the demands for insulin. Q: Does it go away? A: No. It is a lifelong disease. It's impossible to avoid completelly without the stem cell procedure. Q: What is life like as a Diabetic? A: Normal. Just a different kind of normal. I take shots and go to the doctors once every couple months, but I'm not stripped of my life. I have a diet and I have to watch what I eat, but I can still eat my favorite foods once in a while. Q: The diet... you have a diet? A: Well, I need to regulate my blood sugar levels. My diet is as followed: don't take too much sugar when you're blood sugar level is high, and drink sugar (it has to be a drink, food takes too long to digest) when your blood sugar level is low. I eat snacks during the day and 3 meals. You can't skip any meals or snacks, or else you'll feel it. Q: You feel your blood sugar levels? A: Yes. When my blood sugar is high, It's harder for me to pay attention or work properly. I feel warm and hyper. Sometimes I'll be agressive. When I'm low, I feel shakey and cold, but usually hungry. I might start sweating and feel very tired. Sometimes I feel dizzy, if it goes down far enough (thank goodness it doesn't!) Q: What's considered "normal" blood-sugar wise? A: The units for blood sugars are measured in mg. of sugar per dL of blood. 80-120 is normal, but it may go between 60-160 depending on how much you eat or exersize. I go between 100-200 for the most part, but I have had numbers as low as 35 and as high as 500. Q: I never knew you were a diabetic! How come you didn't say so before? A: As much as I love to educate people about the disease, I'm not different from anyone else on Youtube: I'm still a human being. I might need more time on tests or medical attention when I'm exersizing vigerously, but it's not like I'm a different person! I live my life differently, that's all. Q: What was that bracelet in the last picture? A: That's my Medic Alert bracelet on my bed. If I pass out from my blood sugars going too low or too high, then the paramedics will be able to see that I'm a diabetic, and they may be able to wake me up with glucagon (think of it as sugar-in-a-bottle) or an insulin shot. Q: What can I do to help? Where can I learn more? A: http://www.jdrf.org

Add to your friends list, I am a diabetic type 2. I am terribly angry at our president about vetoeing a bill allow stem cell research. I beleive diabetes is weaponized to depopulate the continent slowly without causing a panic. I could be wrong but who knows. I hope one day that we can overcome this disease that can actually claim a life. I have suffered seizures at the hand of aspartame. thanks to monsanto and serle pharm company. I hope these people go bankrupt and vanish. stone

i have a diabetes doctor who has diabetes likewise. the pump has its ups and downs, but my humalog/NPH insulin doses are doing me fine. i've been in the hospital once for having the flu (for 2 days) and i visit my diabetes doctor once every 3 months, but it's not like i whine all the time about it [diabetes]. i just hate the fact that myself, along with millions of other people, still have to deal with this BECAUSE of someone ELSE'S lousy decision. insulin is a treatment, NOT a cure.

people are taking this video far beyond it's original purpose. from back in the 90's i was promised a cure. here comes 2008 (at the time of this video) and it's not happening in america. diabetes is being hidden underneath other diseases like AIDS and cancer. the truth is it's just as serious and life-threatening, except you can't live life freely. no, not poor me, poor EVERYBODY. poor for the people that died after a cure for this disease was vetoed by george bush.

Nope, like I said- I'm insensitive.

Good job on the doctor choice. Be sure to change your sites around for the insulin pump. Certain parts of your body will not absorb the way other parts do- drinking a ton of water will help to- stay off Diet cokes! I love them, but i went on a big weight loss program and it was working ok, but then i stopped the DC, and i lost weight overnight (almost, but it felt like it). I know DC weight loss dosent make since, but try it. The "Fake Sugar" makes you feel like you're not full and you eat a ton

Don't get me wrong I'm absolutely greatfull in every possible way for what I have and being able to get an insulin pump because if I didn't I don't think id be here.. My Body is almost Insulin allergic.. sometimes it will work and other times nothing can happen for weeks and Ill have to be hospitalized due to high bloodsugars but the pump is absolutely incredible to have like you said! and Yep i see a Endocrinologist on a regular basis

I completely agree in a way.. I hate when people just play the "poor me card" and try and turn all attention on them when reality is this is a disease lots and lots of people have in this world and yes it can be bad if you make it that way and yes it can be under control if only you try I am very understanding when it comes to brital diabetics having to go through it myself but I hate when people milk it with everything they got..
