This was an AM hit in Syracuse, New York back in the day. Loved the lyrics, loved the backlash. Underrated vocal and song craft here as well. Catchy tune...and in that respect was a VERY successful song. Cheers.

I'm from wilkes-barre/scranton. In an interview with the buoys they mentioned that timothy was a donkey, not a fellow miner. regardless, they made the story up anyway.

I don't think some people really don't know what this song was about I believe it was the only song that was about cannibalism When trapped in a mine and couldn't get out for days and had to eat his friend to survive. The song was very good it hit the carts in July of 1971.

Have you noticed that, listed under "RELATED VIDEOS",is "Honey By Bobby Goldsboro"?The people running YouTube DID notice the fact that ProfessorBigBrains mentioned that song as a "thing" that "could be worse",right?

In the Netherlands both were wellknown songs; Give up your guns was even a hit twice: 1972 #5 and 1979 #8 (the instrumental bridge was used in a commercial at a famous radiostation)

koos53, you are correct. Neither one qualifies as a hit.

The video tells that this was the only hit of The Buoys, but what about "Give up your guns"?
