Man... I have been searching for this song for years... Finally glad I found it. I was young when this movie came out but listening to this somg is why I wanted to play the trumpet in middle school. It just really spoke to me... Just like my poetry... Might write a poem to this if I don't already have one... Love the song... love it to death...

Terence Blanchard done a great job on the sound track to Mo'Better Blues.... Mo'Better makes it Mo'Better..LOL...

This song set the tone well for a vulnerable scene in Spike Lee's movie Mo Better Blues. Sing Soweto is my joint...so passionate and heart felt.

I think Terence should play whatever trumepet he wants to play and can afford. Young musicians will make music on whatever they can and can afford. Terence is a fantastic role model as a human being and one of the most compelling players/composers in jazz. He's got tone, taste, heart and intellect in abundance.I got to see him again a couple of months ago doing tunes from the Katrina album. Incredibly moving and he has a killer band.

I totally disagree with your approach because most people wouldn't even know the trumpet was worth $10,000 unless you said something. It's not the same as an emcee wearing gold or jewelery because playing the trumpet at Terence Blanchard's level cannot be compared. It takes skills, something rappers flaunting jewels do not possess. Plus, the dudes success is without question, from his albums to most of Spike Lee's movie scores. So one $10,000 dollar trumpet is not going to hurt anyone.

you got me there, I haven't played a $30,000 Monette lately, nor a 6, 8, or 10thousand dollar one either. We were arguing the sound, which you can hear from these youtube links. I might not realize that the horn also makes a latte while youre practicing it. But go listen to a cat with soul who doesn't play them either: Till Bronner. THen come back and say you think the Monette is worth so much more.

You need to check your facts my friend. First off Monette sells their basic professional models for around $6000-7000. Second, there have been numerous Monettes available on ebay for half that or less. $30,000 Monette horns are usually private commissioned works. Last but not least none of the current jazz artists owe it to anyone to play any particular instrument anyway. Besides, how would you know, have you played a $30,000 Monette lately?

I didnt miss your point - it just doesnt hold water. The Martin Committee in its day was equivalent to a Bach Strad or a Conn Connstellation or a Selmer K-model or a Besson. And they all cost about the same and were top notch professional horns. Today the same quality runs you $2000 or less. The Monette costs $30,000. It is not that much better of a horn. Not even close |
