He hadn't used heroin at the time of writing the song

exactly. you might say lou reed was a more blunt and truthful writer of his day. we need more poets like him

Your 100% correct. He's describing the feeling of being humble and dissatisfied with life due to being addicted to heroin.I have been there myself. While I will admit Heroin and other Opiates feel incredible, they can be evil and slowly take your life away.

The movie had it because the velvet underground were playing at Andy Warhol's at the time. They are referenced in the movie.

if you actually listen to the lyrics he's not making it sound sexy at all.

yeah it's off their first album, the velvet underground & nico. this is after they broke and came back together for this one time. there's only three of the original members on the stage, though just two are playing in the clip here. the lead singer is lou reed, best known for his hit song "walk on the wild side."

The lead singer kinda sounds like Bob Dylan.Did they make this song??because on the movie The Doors they had this song in it.
Juawp (December 31, 1969 at 6:59 pm)
If anything, this is an anti-heroin song. Read the fucking lyrics and you'll realize Lou is describing how when he's on heroin he doesn't care about anything but heroin.

i listened to this song for the first time in about 1972 when i was maybe 12 or 13....it never made me want to try heroin...it did make me want to try more lou reed though....
