zimmer is a great composer and one of my favourite soundtracks is the red thin line.

not serving a real purpose? I BEG to differ. Hans is more concerned with PSYCHOLOGY with his music than anything else. And that is the purpose of film music. As much as i respect composers with great musicology, psychology is still the first place of business in film music. Listen the Dark Knight. I hate people who criticize film music aesthetics when in only actual fact they're obviously only interested in listening to its surface.
