I remember we were excited when this debuted in 1964, because it was done by Jay Ward, who had previously given us Rocky Bullwinkle. Somehow this cartoon just kinda faded away from memory- not that it was bad. It just wasn't as memorable as RB, or Ward's other series George of the Jungle. Maybe it was the fact that the other show segments were repeats, or maybe it was because the writers couldn't make up their mind whether Uncle Waldo was a con artist or good Samaritan. Your guess is as good as mine as to what happened. A lady named Chris Allen (who was a writer, not a professional voice actor) did Hoppity, Hans Conried did Waldo Wigglesworth, Bill Scott was Fillmore the Bear, and Paul Frees narrated and did most of the other voices. Notice in the opening, the words first spell out "Hippity Hopper, then change to "Hoppity Hooper". Hippity Hopper was the name of Warner Bros. baby kangaroo character- I wonder if WB hadn't complained to Ward about the name, and the opening wasn't Ward way of tweaking them a little.

I posted it, but I'll be darned if I can link it here. Do a search for "Waldo Wigglesworth comes up with a plan".

Do you have one of those times, or at least, the COOL sounds somewhere?
Freenbean (November 30, 1999 at 12:00 am)
yes, that happened whenever Waldo thought up one of his schemes.

This was in reruns on Channel 18 in Milwaukee when I was 10-ish. 1979-80, I reckon. And I notice that Waldo Wigglesworth seems to be drawn to look like Hans Conried, which, given the relatively simple animation, is remarkable.

I honestly don't remember. It has been so long since I saw this show.

Do you remember if it was this show where someone was getting an idea, there was a series of clicking clanking noises?

I have not seen this in over 40 years! It is fun to see this again, and I remember the opening to the show. I thought it was really goofy (in the best sense of the word), and it remains so!

I have a tiny Hoppity Hooper magnet, about the size of my thumbnail. It was stuck to the medicine chest in my house when I moved in last year.
