Just like in Afghanistan after Rambo III, the character has become an underground symbol of defiance after the movie was released and immediately banned in Burma and anyone that was part of it would be arrested if they ever set foot in Burma. The movie is widely pirated in Burma, but owning a copy of the DVDcarries a 10 year jail term and selling the DVDs is Death. As silly as it might seem, Rambo is one of the few symbols of hope these people have as a way to defy their rulers.

Because NATO is a figure head for the US military backed by its allies. NATO will never engage in a conflict unless there is somthing to gain from it(ie.oil). If it was the case that NATO did act in accordance to its mandate, it would be in places such as Darfur or Sri Lankia. crosboid got it spot on11

thats a great point, and unfortunately, there are a dozen more organizations that also should have stepped in by now, most prominently the UN. it's the same reason nobody did anything for Darfur...which is still happening fyi...and why nobody is doing anything for Kenya.

Sounds like you are unable to take things in context then.

This is one of the many, many reasons this man has been my hero and idol for as long as I can remember. He's such a caring and kind person. He's just so..genuine. I want to be just like him someday.

The UN have done nothing to help the people of Burma. We need to keep putting pressure on them to actually stand up for human rights for once, and not just try to appease an undemocratic, brutal regime. |
