I think I'm right in saying that there are a lot of 'guitar gods' around past and present, that have awesome ability, technique, tone, speed, clarity etc. All of which, after a (long!!) while, can be learned. However, very few are able to talk through their instrument like Gary, and are able to do it with such raw passion. One of the all time greats, and any one who doubts this, just listen to this one again...

apart from the les paul and marshall, this tone comes mainly from his fingers and overall technique (vibrato, phrasing, pick attack etc).
