very good point.but remeber that germany was occupied and invested in after ww2 FOR YEARS. and it worked out really well.

Unless its held by the Saudis, who are our 'friends.' I don't think you understand me. Wars of occupation are the wrong TACTIC. If we have to bomb everything that looks like it could be a nuclear facility into the stone age, then fine. It'll still be abhorrent, but the alternative is worse. There is some hypocrisy here. WE are the only nuclear terrorists in history. WE nuked two CIVILIAN targets. WE also have an end-of-days wacko in office. That shit needs to be acknowledged, and stopped.

I support the destruction of terrorists with armed force. I am not particularly opposed to a permanent state of hostility with Islamic fascism, although I should add the Saudis are close to being in this group. I do not support prolonged occupations and attempts at nation-building, especially when those occupations are executed with cross purposes by corrupt and incompetent administrators. I don't think they work.

well, Hitchens would reply that we must make the expense (oh and by the way the US is the richest nation that ever existed) because evil nations (Taliban Afghaistan and Saddam Iraq and Iran and North Korea for exaple) are allied with and actively aid the religious fascists who have declared a war against the US the West and civilization itselfthink 9/11 and worse: the very real possibility of nuclear armed terrorists targeting American and other Western cities

Christopher, where is your nation-building ambition in Africa? I realize you're proud of your new American identity, but WE DO NOT HAVE ENOUGH MONEY to fight multiple wars of occupation, no matter how desirable. Such occupations would need to meet a standard of absolute necessity, and in such cases, we would probably not need to act unilaterally. Also, the Bush regime is extremely corrupt. An invasion, however well-conceived by you, will be implemented by rotten, rotten men.
