"Time is a component of a measuring system used to sequence events, to compare the durations of events and the intervals between them, and to quantify the motions of objects."- wikipedia ;)

Nice vid, physics is awesome. The only problem i have with this is the amount of leway we give "time" for it to exist, to the degree that it doesn't even elapse the same from different perspectives. Meaning that there is no fundamental concept of time only the way we experience it, thus its only a creation that is useful and efficient but not real or fundamental in the universe. We can even call the ability to perceive time as a "Sense".

in the universe nothing make sense

i totally agree with you.

the most obvious question is how do we detect them , ( gravity waves)

Consider an ant zipping across your bedroom floor,if you were that size and zipping like the ant, you'd be doing,say,300-300 km/hr,and the ant would see you on the bed as a huge, incredibly slow creature seemingly motionless for hours, what might be seconds for you may be hours for the ant. This may be because of the life span of individual species. So Time as a physical entity cld better be xplained if the Concious of organisms could be xplained in physical terms, which at the moment is not possible

I may be the dumb one here, but my doubt is whether Time is a 'physical' force/matter or, as some of you guys have put it, is it just a perception of 'wearing-out' by the Concious of the living organisms?

The faster you move the slower passes your time in compare with the objects that move slower. Theory of relativity says that. You could also say that space is something given unchanging and could exist even without matter no matter that it couldnt be experienced or used by anything/one yet if you look up to the stars there is no center of the universe you could find, which according to your experience with the static 3 dimensions that you're used to deal with doesn't make sense.

What i meant to say before is that your perception of your existence doesnt nearly give you idea what time actually is. Time has its own specific behaviour that you just cant perceive under normal conditions, if you were running with your clock at speed close to the speed of light and then you stoped, you would find that the clocks around you show later time than the clock that you were holding while running.

yeh but 75 mph and relativistic speeds like C (the speed of light) are quite different. also by application of the Doppler effect it would mean that the frequency of the light changed but obviously the speed stays the same. |
